SPLICE Automation has developed patent-pending technology to completely eliminate the pick-worker from distribution centers. We're able to do this by changing the way inventory is stored in the picking zones of distribution centers. By storing inventory in SPLICE's patent-pending inventory totes, items can be selectively and automatically dispensed for downstream processing. Piece-picking in distribution centers consumes roughly 20% of the cost to process a customer's order thought the fulfillment process. Nearly every distribution center utilizes some form of manual picking technology: RF picking, pick-to-voice, pick-to-light, goods-to-man, the list goes on. The weak link in all of these technologies is the reliance on humans to perform the physical picking process - resulting in high labor cost per item, frequent errors, and multiple redundant processes (bar-code scanning) to verify picking accuracy.
